No more cherry barbs for me
No more cherry barbs for me
So I've had Cherry Barbs for about six months now, and they're just not vibing with my tank. They're super skittish, hide all the time, and don't even school like they're supposed to. Anyone else had this issue?

Yeah, I've had a similar experience. Mine were fine for a while, but then they started getting really aggressive with each other. Ended up rehoming them to a friend's tank.

That's weird, mine are super chill. They school nicely and don't bother anyone. What's your tank setup like? Maybe something's off with the environment.
Re: No more cherry barbs for me
Cherry Barbs can be sensitive to water conditions. What are your parameters? Also, how many do you have? They need a group of at least six to feel comfortable.
Re: No more cherry barbs for me
Yeah, that's key. I had five at first and they were a mess, added three more and it totally changed their behavior.
Re: No more cherry barbs for me
Mine are in a 20-gallon with plenty of plants and driftwood. They're super active and colorful. Maybe your tank's too bare or the water's too hard? They prefer softer water.
Re: No more cherry barbs for me
I've heard they can be hit or miss. Some people swear by them, others can't stand 'em. Maybe it's just luck of the draw with the fish you get.
Re: No more cherry barbs for me
Mine were fine until I added some Gouramis. Then they just vanished into the plants. Could be tankmates stressing them out.
Re: No more cherry barbs for me
I've had mine for a year and they're great. They school, they're active, and they even bred in my tank. Maybe it's just your specific group?

Mine were the same way. Super shy and never schooled. I switched to Harlequin Rasboras and they've been way better. Sometimes it's just the fish.
