Fertilizer to pair with Seachem Flourish

Post by Corona »

I've been using Seachem Flourish for my planted tank but my plants still look kinda weak. What's a good fertilizer to pair with it? My tank's a 20 gallon with Amazon swords, java fern, and some anubias. Running a Fluval LED light for 8 hours a day.

Flourish is just a micronutrient supplement, so you'll need macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Try pairing it with Flourish Nitrogen or Flourish Potassium. My 30 gallon with similar plants thrived after adding those. What's your substrate?

Thanks for the tip. I'm using eco-complete substrate. Gonna grab some Flourish Nitrogen and see how it goes.

Eco-complete should have some nutrients, but it's not enough long-term. I'd also recommend root tabs if your swords aren't perking up. I use API root tabs in my 40 gallon and the difference is night and day.

Agreed. Root tabs are a game-changer for heavy root feeders. I've had success with Seachem Flourish Tabs too. How often are you dosing Flourish currently?

I'm in the same boat with my 15 gallon. Tried Flourish alone and my anubias barely grew. Switched to Thrive all-in-one and it's way better. Maybe worth a shot if you wanna keep it simple.

Yo, I just dump some random plant food in there and hope for the best. My plants are kinda alive, so it's whatever. But yeah, Flourish ain't enough on its own.

I've had good results with Easy Green from Aquarium Co-Op. It's got all the macros and micros, and it's super easy to dose. My java fern exploded after a few weeks.

Lol, Aidsy, that's one way to do it. But seriously, I'd second Thrive or Easy Green. Flourish is like giving your plants a vitamin when they need a full meal. My tank's a mess but at least the plants are happy.

Thrive is solid, but if you're already using Flourish, you might as well stick with Seachem's line for consistency. Just add the macros separately. Less chance of overdosing something.
