Eheim Jager submersible depth

Post by angler_09 »

Just got an Eheim Jager heater, 200W. The manual says it's submersible but doesn't specify max depth. Anyone know how deep it can go? Running a 55g with sand substrate, about 18 inches deep. Don't wanna fry it.

Yep, the Jager can handle full submersion, no prob. I've had mine in a 24-inch deep tank for years, same model. Just make sure the adjustment dial stays above water, or it'll get sketchy. What's your temp set at?

I've heard mixed things about this. My buddy's Jager crapped out after a few months submerged too deep. Maybe stick to halfway? Also, love your tank size, angler_09. What fish you got in there?

Agree with hookit. Dial above water, rest can go deep. Mine's at 78F, stable for 2 years. Angler_09, you using a backup heater?

Kinda new to this, but my LFS said Jagers are bulletproof. Running mine in a 20g tall, fully submerged. No issues yet, but now I'm paranoid. Should I move it higher?

The manual's vague for a reason. Eheim knows their stuff, but they don't wanna promise depth limits. As long as the seals are good, you're fine. Check for cracks before installing.

Thanks, all. Dial stays dry, got it. Running at 76F with a school of Tetras and a pair of Rams. No backup heater yet, coastrider. Gonna grab one this weekend.

Depth shouldn't matter if the unit's intact. Had a Jager in a 30-inch reef tank, fully submerged. Lasted 4 years until a power surge killed it. Invest in a surge protector too.

Don't stress it. If it's working now, you're good. Just keep an eye on the temp. Jagers are solid.

Backup heater's smart, angler_09. I run two Jagers in my 75g, set 2 degrees apart. Redundancy saves lives, fish included. What substrate you using? Sand can trap heat weirdly.
