identifying the type of this
identifying the type of this
Hey, it's been a bit. I picked up some assorted African cichlids lately and I'm trying to figure out what they are. Done some research, got a few ideas, but any help with a positive ID would be great, thanks.

I'm no expert, but based on your picture, I think it might be a juvenile Saulosi cichlid. Your fish appear to be quite young, which makes identification a bit tricky. However, the Pseudotropheus Saulosi is indeed an African cichlid, a dwarf mbuna from Lake Malawi, so it's definitely a possibility.

Looks like it could be a Neolamprologus leleupi to me, although it's hard to say for certain given their size.

I can see why you'd both think that. I actually ran a picture through Google Lens and it suggested they might be lemon cichlids, but like I said, they're more orange than yellow, so I'm not entirely sure. I was thinking maybe red zebra cichlids, but at the same time, I can see the resemblance to the others you mentioned.

Red zebra's a good possibility too.

If the store couldn't name them, that usually means they're hybrids - and that generally increases their value. 'Assorted' tanks are often a mix. You might get a better idea what they mostly are as they grow, but chances are they're just gorgeous mutts.
