Will my clownfish host in Duncanopsammia?
Will my clownfish host in Duncanopsammia?
I've had my clownfish for about six months now, and they still haven't hosted in anything. I added a Duncanopsammia frag last week, hoping they'd take to it. Has anyone seen clowns host in these? My tank's a 40-gallon breeder, parameters are stable, 78°F, 1.025 salinity, and I run two AI Primes.

Clowns are weirdly picky. Mine ignored everything for a year before suddenly claiming a torch. Duncanopsammia isn't a common host, but it's not impossible. How's the flow around it? They might prefer something with more movement.

Yep, flow's huge. My pair ignored a Duncan for months until I cranked the MP10 nearby. Now they won't leave it alone. Try tweaking the current, maybe pulse mode if your pump supports it.

Mine took to a Duncanopsammia after I moved it higher in the tank. They seem to like the light intensity there. What's your PAR at? If it's too low, they might just ignore it.

Never seen clowns host in Duncans, but hey, fish do weird stuff. My buddy's clown hosts a powerhead. Maybe yours'll surprise you.

I'm new to this, but my clownfish hosted a Duncanopsammia right away. It's in a 20-gallon cube, medium flow. Maybe it's just luck?

Mine never touched the Duncanopsammia. They prefer the frogspawn. Maybe try adding another coral type if they don't take to it soon.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll play with the flow and light placement. Fingers crossed.

One more thing, are they captive-bred? Wild-caught clowns might be more likely to host unusual corals. Mine are CB, so they're kinda clueless.
