Discus fry tank setup basics
Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Yeah, 1.5 to 2 inches is the sweet spot. Any smaller, and they can get bullied in a community tank.

Also, when you move them, acclimate slowly. Discus are sensitive to sudden changes, even if the water params are similar.

I've heard some people use a quarantine tank before moving fry to the main tank. Is that necessary?
Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Not a bad idea, especially if your main tank has other fish. Gives you a chance to make sure the fry are healthy before introducing them to the group.

Makes sense. I'll set up a QT tank when mine are ready to move.
Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Just remember to keep the QT tank at the same temp and water params as the fry tank. Sudden changes can stress them out.
Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
And don't forget to feed them well during QT. They're still growing fast at that stage.
Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Yeah, QT is a good time to fatten them up a bit before they have to compete for food in the main tank.
Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Also, keep the QT tank bare-bottom. Easier to clean and monitor for any health issues.
