Major tank overhaul, snails, and more: Tough day

Post by sharpfin12 »

Just spent the whole day redoing my 55 gallon tank, moved all the fish to a temp bin, and now the water's cloudy as heck. Also found a ton of pest snails hitchhiking on my new plants. Anyone dealt with this mess before?

Cloudy water usually means a bacterial bloom from disturbing the substrate. Did you rinse the new plants before adding them? Snails can be a pain, but some Assassin Snails might help.

Yep, cloudy water's normal after a big move. Had the same thing happen when I upgraded to my 75 gallon. Snails are kinda whatever, but if they bug you, just drop in a piece of zucchini overnight and scoop 'em out in the morning.

That's a solid trick. Also, if you're worried about the cloudiness, a water clarifier might speed things up. Just don't overdo it.

Snails are the worst, man. I had a full-blown infestation last year. Ended up nuking the tank with copper, but that's risky if you've got shrimp or sensitive fish. Maybe try manual removal first?

What kinda filter you running? If it's a canister, you might wanna check the media. Cloudy water could mean it's not cycling right after the move.

I've heard adding more beneficial bacteria can help with the cloudiness. Maybe try Seachem Stability or something similar?

The snails might not be so bad. They help clean up algae and leftover food. Maybe just let them be for a bit?

Cloudy water's whatever, but snails are a hard no for me. Had to tear down my whole setup last time they took over.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try the zucchini trick and maybe grab some clarifier. Appreciate the help!
