feeding schedule for mushrooms

Post by daxil »

I've been keeping a mixed reef for about two years now, and my mushrooms have been thriving, but I'm not sure if I'm feeding them enough. Right now, I spot-feed them Reef Roids twice a week, but they don't always open up for it. Tank is a 40-gallon breeder with AI Prime lighting, 78°F, salinity at 1.025. Anyone have a better schedule or food recommendation?

Mushrooms are pretty chill, dude. They don't need much to stay happy. I've got a bunch in my 75-gallon, and I only feed 'em once a week with a mix of frozen mysis and Reef Roids. They're under Radion XR15s, and they've been spreading like crazy. Maybe cut back to once a week and see how they react?

I agree with whiskerboy. Mushrooms are low-maintenance. I've had success with a weekly feeding of Benepets Coral Food. My tank's a 50-gallon with T5 lighting, and the mushrooms seem to prefer smaller particles. They're not as picky as LPS, so don't stress too much about it.

Yo, I've got a bunch of Rhodactis in my nano, and they're doing great with just light. I only feed 'em like once a month, if that. Tank's got a Kessil A80, and they're growing like weeds. Maybe your lighting's doing most of the work?

I've found that mushrooms can be weird about feeding. Some days they'll take it, other days they won't. My 30-gallon has a mix of Discosoma and Ricordea, and I feed them every 10 days with a mix of Reef Roids and frozen brine. They seem to like the variety.

My mushrooms are under a cheap Nicrew light, and they're still spreading. I don't even spot-feed 'em, just let 'em grab whatever's floating around. Tank's a 20-gallon with a HOB filter, and they're happy as can be. Maybe you're overthinking it?

Mushrooms are photosynthetic, so they don't strictly need feeding. If you're seeing good growth and color, you might not need to feed at all. My 60-gallon has a mix of species under AI Hydras, and I only feed them monthly. Focus on water quality first.

Yeah, I'd second that. My Discosoma are in a 90-gallon with ReefLEDs, and they're fine with weekly feedings. They're not as needy as some other corals.

I've kept mushrooms for years, and they're one of the easiest corals to care for. My 55-gallon has a mix of species, and I feed them every two weeks with a slurry of frozen foods. They're under cheap Amazon LEDs, and they're still thriving.

Mushrooms are tough as nails. I've got a bunch in my 25-gallon cube with a Noopsyche light, and they're spreading fast. I don't feed 'em at all, just let 'em do their thing. Maybe your tank's already giving 'em what they need?
