does fish really hold?

Post by aurix »

I noticed this after their dinner last night, one of them has a visible pouch, is she holding a joey?

The top little one

The one behind the top one, at an angle

Looks that way to me, the top one's pouch does seem like it's holding something, and the one at an angle behind it seems to be in a similar position.

They appear to be quite juvenile. Lovely specimens, though - are they Tangs, and if so, which species do you think they might be?

Yeah, they're Tangs, paracyprichromis nigripinnis, fingers crossed I got that right lol. Not my usual type of fish, but I got asked to take them in and I had a spare tank just sitting there. I'm really hoping she was just holding onto some food, but this morning she's gone into hiding in one of the hollow rocks.

I am hoping she was just holding food, although she is hiding this morning in one of the hollow rocks. Click to expand...

You can hope, but I've never seen a fish look like that, unless they were holding something other than food! Fingers crossed she's just holding a snack, but she's gone to ground in one of the hollow rocks this morning. I've never seen a fish look like that, to be honest, unless they're holding eggs.

This is thrilling, I'll be keeping a close eye on her now, fingers crossed it's what I'm hoping for.

Update - it was food, I fed them tonight and she's got the pouch again, cheeky thing lol.

They're like little vacuum cleaners, grabbing as much food as they can, then slowly munching on it.
