Saltwater tank

Post by talonix »

I'm seeing a huge jump in nitrates, from 5 to 20, and I'm wondering what the ideal level should be - thanks for the help Scott, this all started after adding the new achilles tang

Nitrates in an SPS tank should ideally be quite low, I'd say 20 is still on the higher side. For optimal health, they require strong water circulation and, in my experience, tend to thrive under metal halide lighting.

Good luck with your new Achilles tang, by the way - they can be notoriously tricky to keep.

You can still keep SPS with nitrates at 10, but ideally you want to get as close to zero as you can.

Nitrate filter's doing its job, nitrate's back down to 0/5. Achilles tang's looking great, colours are really coming back and that white spot's gone. New pic's up, check it out. Thanks Scott

Hi Ben, I paid £175 for the little fella, he's doing great. Only thing is, he's a bit fussy eater, only munching on brineshrimp and marine mix, won't touch the algae sheets though. Had a bit of a disaster with a morish idol, died in delivery, gutted about that.
