Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
I've had this for around a year now. Started with 2 small heads, now I've got around 8-10. One of them's got this huge bubble next to its mouth, been like that for weeks. It deflates a bit at night when the heads retract, but it never goes away. Never seen a frogspawn like this before. Some of the tentacles get crazy long, 3-4 inches on some days. I'm pretty sure it's healthy, but that bubble's got me curious.
Re: Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
I've seen this before in my own frogspawn, usually happens when a head is preparing to split. That bubble of yours is a pretty big one, just be patient and it'll sort itself out on its own with time.

I've come across similar cases on this forum before and it seems Fablet9's explanation makes sense.
Re: Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
Yeah, I agree with them. I've seen this before with my own hammer, it's happened a few times and each time it's led to new head growth.
Re: Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
Time to break this guy up before it completely takes over, gonna have to frag it.
Re: Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
My frogspawn has never done this before, but it's had an explosive growth spurt, quadrupling several times over the years. Today I noticed this massive bubble, and I'm curious what's going on - anyone else ever seen this?
Re: Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
I've got a torch with a similar issue, huge bubble next to one of the heads, been wondering what's going on with it.

Just found this article from Advanced Aquarist that might be relevant to our discussion on frogspawn - http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2008/8/aafeature1.

Re: Frogspawn coral with large bubbles
One of my hammer's heads developed a bubble prior to splitting, seems like a pretty normal precursor to growth.
