Blastomussa growth rate
Blastomussa growth rate
My Blastomussa has been in the tank for three months and hasn't shown much growth. It's under moderate lighting, 75-gallon tank, with stable parameters: 78°F, 1.025 salinity, 8 dKH. Anyone else experience slow growth with these corals?
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Blastomussa can be slow growers, especially if they're not getting enough nutrients. What's your nitrate level? They prefer 5–10 ppm. Also, try feeding them directly with mysis or reef roids. I've seen mine respond well to target feeding twice a week.
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Yo, mine took forever to start growing too. Had it in a 40 breeder with T5s, and it just chilled for like four months. Then I bumped up the amino acids and bam, new heads popped up. Maybe tweak your dosing?
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Agree with this. Mine didn't grow until I started feeding. Also, check your flow. Too much can stress them out.
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
What's your lighting schedule? I run mine for 8 hours with a ramp-up period. Blastos don't need intense light, but consistency helps. Also, what's your substrate? Sand or bare bottom?
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Mine took six months to show any growth. Patience is key with these guys. I keep mine in low flow, and they're finally spreading. How often are you doing water changes?
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Kinda weird how some corals just decide to take a vacation, huh? My Blasto did nothing for ages, then one day it just decided to wake up. Maybe it's just their vibe.
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
I've heard they grow faster in tanks with higher calcium levels. What's yours at? Also, are you using a protein skimmer?
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll try target feeding and check my nitrate levels. My calcium is at 420 ppm, and I do weekly 10% water changes. Flow is moderate, so I'll keep an eye on that too.
Re: Blastomussa growth rate
Sounds like you're on the right track. 420 ppm calcium is solid. Just give it time and consistent care.
