small aquarium setup
small aquarium setup
I'm setting up a 10g tank and I'm looking for some advice. Do I still need a sump and a skimmer for a tank this size? If so, what kind would you guys recommend? I've heard mixed reviews on them. Also, how many lbs of coflake would be good for this tank? And what kind of fish should I get? I want to make sure I'm setting it up right.
Re: small aquarium setup
Water changes are a breeze on a 10g tank, so I wouldn't stress too much about a sump. I mean, I've got one on my tiny 5.5g and it's overkill, but hey, I like to go all out. As for a skimmer, it's just not practical unless you're working with a pretty big sump. Finding one that's large enough to actually do its job is tough, and those microbubbles can be a real pain.

Considering the tank's small size, I think a 10g filter combined with regular water changes would be sufficient to sustain it.fleeton wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 12:58 pm Water changes are a breeze on a 10g tank, so I wouldn't stress too much about a sump. I ran a 10g tank and it did great, had a Fluval 3 filter and did 20% water changes weekly. My firefish and clownfish were thriving, no issues at all.
