Favia feeding response

Post by flyer8 »

My Favia isn't showing much feeding response lately. I've tried mysis, brine shrimp, and even reef roids, but it barely extends its tentacles. Tank params are stable, 78F, 1.025 salinity, 8.2 pH. Anyone else dealt with this?

Favias can be picky. What's your lighting like? Too much or too little can mess with their feeding. Also, try turning off the flow for a bit when you feed. Mine perks up when the water's calm.

I've had success with smaller food particles. Try blending the mysis or using something like Reef Chili. Favias sometimes ignore larger chunks if they're not in the mood.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try reducing the flow and blending the food. My lights are AI Primes at 60%, so maybe I'll tweak that too.

How old is your Favia? Older specimens can be slower to respond. Also, check for any pests bothering it. I've seen flatworms mess with feeding behavior.

Have you tried target feeding with a pipette? Sometimes they need the food right in their face to wake up.

Mine's the same way, super lazy. I swear it's got a weird vibe lately. Maybe it's just the phase of the moon or something. Jokes aside, target feeding works for me too.

Is it near any aggressive corals? My Favia stopped eating when a nearby torch got too close. Moved it and things improved.

Yep, second this. Blended food is way easier for them to grab. Also, try feeding at the same time every day. They're creatures of habit.

Another thing to check is your nitrate levels. Too low and they might not have the energy to feed. Mine's happiest around 5-10 ppm.
