Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
My Torch coral has been extending its sweeper tentacles and stinging nearby Zoanthids. Tank is a 40-gallon breeder, running two AI Prime HDs at 70% intensity, with weekly 10% water changes. Parameters are stable, 8.1 pH, 1.025 salinity, 0 phosphate. Should I move it or trim the tentacles?
Re: Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
I'd try moving it first. Torches can be aggressive, and trimming might stress it out. What's the flow like in your tank? High flow can sometimes reduce how far their sweepers reach.
Re: Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
Yeah, relocation's the move. Had the same issue with my Hammer last year. Put it on an island rock in the middle, and problem solved. Also, check your alk, bro. If it's swinging, corals get pissy.
Re: Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
Agreed. Alk stability is key. Torches can extend sweepers further if parameters are off. Test your dKH and calcium too. Aim for 8-9 dKH and 420-450 calcium.

Mine did this too. I moved it higher up where the flow's stronger, and it chilled out. How close are your Zoas? Maybe give 'em more space if they're crammed.

Torches gonna torch, man. If you don't wanna move it, try feeding it more. Sometimes they're just hungry and reach out for snacks. I dose amino acids, and mine stopped bothering the neighbors.

What's your nitrate level? Low nutrients can make corals aggressive.
Re: Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
I'd just move it. Had a similar thing happen, and trimming made it worse. Now it's in the back corner, happy as can be.
Re: Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
Is your Torch new? Sometimes they take a while to settle in and stop being territorial.

Mine did this when the lights were too bright. Dialed them back 10%, and it stopped.
