HELP! Can I move my small discus into a general community tank that's non discus?
HELP! Can I move my small discus into a general community tank that's non discus?
I've got two discus that are getting beat up pretty badly, they're thinning out and starting to stunt. Thinking of moving them to my other established tank, it's got rummies, cories, neons, and dwarf rainbow fish - not a discus setup. Will this be a contamination risk or can my discus adapt, or is it gonna be a bad idea for them?

If all your fish have been in the same fish room for at least 6 months and you've been doing regular water changes, I think cross contamination should be minimal. It's not ideal, I know. Honestly, the best scenario would be to have another dedicated discus tank, preferably a 25-gallon one, for your skinny discus. But if that's not an option, I'd say go ahead and introduce them to the community tank.
What's the condition of their poop like? Have you noticed anything unusual? Pics of the fish would be super helpful in assessing their health.

It's not a slam dunk. Temperature's key - 82 or higher, it might just work. But it's a gamble, I've been there a few times. Had some success, grew them out from 4", all but one made the cut. Other times, not so much.
