Feeding tips for Mushroom Corals

Post by fin_troller »

My Mushroom Corals aren't looking too hot lately. I've been feeding them reef roids once a week, but they're still kinda shriveled. Tank's a 40 gallon breeder, running a Kessil A360X, params are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, salinity at 1.025. Any tips to get 'em plump again?

Reef roids are solid, but Mushroom Corals can be picky. Try spot feeding with mysis shrimp or small bits of krill. I've got a 75 gallon with similar lighting, and mine perk up after a mysis snack. Keep an eye on flow too, they don't like strong currents.

I've had luck with a mix of frozen foods. My Ricordeas love brine shrimp soaked in Selcon. Also, check your phosphate levels. High phosphates can mess with their vibes. My tank runs at 0.03 ppm, and they've been thriving.

Yep, flow's key. I dialed back my MP40 to 30% and saw a huge difference. Also, try feeding after lights out, they're more active then.

Mushroom Corals are low-light, low-flow species. If they're shriveled, it might be too much light. Try dimming the Kessil or raising it a few inches. As for food, I'd skip the reef roids and go for amino acids. Brightwell's CoralAmino works wonders.

Mine were the same till I switched to live phyto. Now they're chunky. I dose 5ml daily in my 50 gallon, and the whole tank's happier. Also, check your magnesium levels. Low mag can make 'em sulk.

Selcon's a game-changer. I soak my mysis in it too. Also, how often are you feeding? Once a week might not cut it. Try twice, but tiny amounts.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try mysis and dial back the flow. Appreciate the help!

Don't forget about water changes. I do 10% weekly, and my Mushrooms stay happy. Also, if you're using carbon, check that it's not too fresh. Fresh carbon can strip nutrients too fast.

Mine love when I turn off the wavemakers during feeding. Gives them a chance to grab the food without fighting the current. Just a thought!
