hi
just set up my 190l tank for a fish only system, was previously used for qt. now i'm wondering how many fish i can safely keep in it.
thanks scott
EDIT: also, what's the equivalent in gallons for that tank size?

Re: counting fish in the aquarium
Depends on the fish, Scott. You got predators or community fish in mind?
Re: counting fish in the aquarium
Certain fish need specific amounts of water, like neptunes that require at least 1 U.S. gallon per fish. You should research the type of fish you're looking to get or already have, and see what the stocking recommendations are. =)

To be honest, with marines, there's no real one-size-fits-all rule for stocking. It's like Fleeton said, it depends on the type of fish you're after. If you're thinking predators, I'd say limit it to a small lion, maybe a triggerfish, and one other at a push, depending on your water change routine, as they can be messy. On the other hand, if you're going for a reef setup, you could fit in more fish - a couple of clowns, a royal gramma, a midas blenny, a smaller angel, and possibly a yellow tang, provided you've got a plan for upgrading the tang's home later on. You need to decide what kind of fish you want to keep, then we can give you a better idea of a suitable stocklist.

Having witnessed the chaos that can erupt when Triggerfish and Lionfish cohabitate, I must stress that combining these two species is ill-advised.
As others have mentioned, the number of fish your tank can support largely depends on the specific species you're considering.

I was more thinking of a juvenile bluefaced angel and an emperor angel. They'd be moved to a 700l tank once they start changing, so this is just a temporary setup until I get the bigger tank built.
I do a weekly water change of about 3-5% in some of my tanks. The juv queen angel is about 3", the emperor is around 2", and the bluefaced is 3" as well. I'm also considering a raffels butterfly.
The angels would be added at the same time; I've never kept juveniles before, so this is a new experience.

what do you think of the bluefaced and emperor angels, and the raffels butterfly, i think they'll do alright in the 190l till i get the bigger tank built, i do 3-5" water changes every week, the angels are only about 2-3" now, so they've got some growing to do, and like i said, they'll get moved when they start changing, thanks

It depends on the duration they'll be in the tank for, I think.
If they're in there long enough to start changing into adults, that's when issues may start to arise.
Provided they're all introduced at the same time, fed well and not in there for too long, I don't see it being a major problem.

hand, it's gonna be in there for 4 months max, tank's almost ready so could be less than that even.
