keeping coral beauty fish: experiences and advice

Post by tetraTim »

I picked one up yesterday and it's really grown on me already. The way it emerges is quite impressive, and when it's patrolling the front of the tank, it's a sight to behold. Still a bit skittish, but that's to be expected.

I did do some reading on the potential for it to eat corals, so if that happens, it'll have to go back. But from what I've seen on other forums, most people have had great experiences with them.

What are people's thoughts on them here?

In my experience, they're one of the dwarf angels least likely to bother coflakes. They tend to spend most of their time weaving in and out of the rockwork, not exactly what you'd call an open water swimmer.

Cheers Ben

He doesn't spend that much time out in the open yet, still getting used to his new surroundings I suppose. Looks lovely though when he does venture out.

Mine tend to stick to the rocks as well, I've observed them cruising through the crevices, just like angels on a real reef, they prefer to stay close to the structure.

Should be alright, dwarf angels are generally safe with flakes. I was a bit wary myself, didn't wanna risk adding one that'd start chomping on my blasto, so I opted for a Genicanthus bellus instead, they're one of the safest reef angels.

He's absolutely stunning and to be honest looking at him now I'm glad he's a bit of a rock dweller, it adds to the mystique of the whole setup.

Mine's got a similar thing going on, the dorsal fin's all serrated at the front and the lower fin's got the same deal at the back, looks like he's trying to show off when I'm feeding him, I reckon he's just trying to look the part, like he's trying to be a big fish or something.

I had one in my tank, lovely fish to watch, the way it'd dart in and out of the rock was just beautiful. I was warned about the coflakes, but thankfully never had any issues with that, just a really nice addition to the tank.

Looks like this dwarf angel has won over a lot of hearts here, I was actually planning on getting a royal gramma but the looks of this one completely changed my mind
