Plants are key for stability. I've got Amazon swords and java fern, low light so they don't need much. Lighting's on for 6 hours, ramps up slowly with a timer. Fish are less skittish with dimmer light. You guys use any tannins? I like the blackwater vibe, keeps them calm.

Tannins are great, but watch the pH drop. I use almond leaves, but only a few at a time. Filter's got purigen to keep the water clear. Lighting's at 7 hours, with a siesta midday. Seems to reduce stress. What's your substrate depth? I keep sand at about 2 inches, easy to clean.
