I've got a couple elegance corals that started shrinking up, looking pretty rough. Figured I was gonna lose 'em, so I thought, why not try something? I'm currently treating a Ritteri anemone with Cipro - if you've had one of these anemones, you know why. When you treat 'em, they shrink up and eventually start expelling this stuff that looks like...well, you don't wanna know. It's basically dead bacterial infections being pushed out.
I threw my elegance corals in the tank with the anemone a few days ago, not expecting much. Next day, they were both expelling that same bacteria. Fast forward to tonight, I got home from work and they're looking better than they have in weeks. I'll keep updating this thread till they're either back in the display or...well, you know. Not sure if anyone else has tried this before, but I'm pretty stoked with the results so far.
Saving elegance corals through testing
Re: Saving elegance corals through testing
Looking forward to hearing how this experiment goes. I've got a nice elegance coral myself and I'm keeping my fingers crossed - those corals can be tough to keep healthy.
Re: Saving elegance corals through testing
Fascinating to see this. How long did you have the elegance corals before they started shrinking?
Re: Saving elegance corals through testing
One's been with me for 3 months, the other for 2. Initially, they both did great, but then the tentacles started shrinking - typical story. I'm actually putting one back in the display tonight, and I'm seeing some good progress - the tentacles are coming back, were completely gone before.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, keep the updates coming.

Really looking forward to your results, got one that's got a bit of tissue shrinkage in one area but rest of it looks great, no receding tissue so far.
