Increasing air flow for your plants

Post by bettaMagenta »

My jungle's gotten ridiculously dense and I'm starting to notice some fungus popping up in the plants above the open tanks. High humidity's probably the culprit, so I'm thinking of adding a couple fans to get some air circulating. At the very least, I'm guessing most of the plants are too overgrown and a good pruning could make a huge difference. Any thoughts on this?

Definitely consider thinning out your jungle with some pruning, that should help with air circulation. Getting a few fans in there wouldn't hurt either. You do have a humidity gauge in the room, right?

No humidity gauge, and the room isn't sealed tight, so I don't think it's extremely humid. The house is air-conditioned, which probably helps. There aren't any vents in the room, so air movement is pretty limited. The air pump and air stones in the tanks provide some circulation, but that's about it. The basement staircase takes up a good chunk of the room and isn't sealed off, so there's some airflow from that.

Observing the setup, I notice the 2-55's, being open on three sides, seem fine. The 2-45's, on the other hand, are only open on one side, and both have their own issues, but I think they're connected to poor air movement. Thinking a small fan on the ceiling, blowing into each 45 gallon, might be a good starting point.
