Growth rates of bowerbankii corals

Post by rustyfox9 »

I've been wondering if any fellow acan fans out there have had similar experiences with bowerbankii growth rates. I picked up a couple frags about 6-8 months ago and so far, no new polyp growth. Meanwhile, the Lord frags I got at the same time have already added around 6-10 new heads each. My bowerbankii are situated at the bottom of the rockwork, center of my 55, right in the edge area of my two LED lamps. The Lords are also at the bottom, but at one side of the tank. I spot feed at least once a week, sometimes twice. My current water params are sp g 1.026, Ca 405, dKh 9. I'm running two 14 inch AQLife XS-UV systems, with the peak power around 75 percent, biased more towards the bluer LEDs. Just curious to hear from others who've had experience with these corals.

I also picked up a plain red bowerbankii and it initially did great, developed some awesome color and split into two heads. But just like yours, it's been stagnant for the past 4-5 months.

I'd say growth is super slow with these. You see places like ReefGen crushing it with aquacultured acan lords, echinatas, and micromussas in their massive 20k gallon system, but bowers and hillaes aren't really on the radar. They're mostly just wild caught, and even maricultured ones are hard to come by. I think long-term success with these corals can be a real challenge.

Still holding out hope I guess. They do seem to be eating well though, like little piggies.

my iron man acan went from 3 to 10 heads in just 2 months, after nearly 2 years of pretty slow growth.
