Identifying the tail type of my betta
Identifying the tail type of my betta
Just got a new Betta, trying to figure out the type. Thinking it might be a halfmoon or rosetail, but not entirely sure. I've attached a picture, but unfortunately, I couldn't catch him with his tail fully flared.

Re: Identifying the tail type of my betta
I'd lean towards a rosetail, delta, or possibly a halfmoon. There's a helpful link I came across with pictures showcasing different types of betta tails - https://www.itsafishthing.com/types-of-betta-fish/. Hopefully that helps you narrow it down.
Re: Identifying the tail type of my betta
Thanks for the link, really interesting read. I managed to get a few more shots with the tail almost fully flared, but as soon as I'm near him he starts swimming around like crazy. Guess I'll just have to keep trying to catch the perfect pic.
Re: Identifying the tail type of my betta
I'd say he's likely an OHM, or possibly an RT, but we really need a clear shot of him flaring to be sure. A video of him flaring would be great too - either way, we'll get a better idea of what we're looking at.
Re: Identifying the tail type of my betta
Don't think the ends of his tail are curled enough for a rosetail. I'm leaning towards halfmoon, personally.
Re: Identifying the tail type of my betta
I'd say delta or halfmoon's a possibility. If you can manage a video, screenshot the best flared pose, might give a clearer idea.
Re: Identifying the tail type of my betta
Try putting a mirror in front of him, see if that triggers a flare. If his fins spread to 180 degrees, I'd say halfmoon, under that it's likely a delta tail, and over 180, well then it's beyond halfmoon. Either way, he's got beautiful colour.
