keeping firefish goby with other gobies?

Post by MidnightFly »

I've been wondering about the compatibility of gobies and blennies in the same tank, given the general consensus that it's best to keep only one of each. However, I started thinking about the fact that the fire dartfish goby isn't actually part of the Gobiodon genus, but rather Nemateleotris. This got me curious - would it be possible to keep a Gobiodon genus goby alongside a Nemateleotris genus goby, considering they're from different genera?

Firtideflow are actually dartfish, not gobies, so that clears up any concerns on that front.

Regarding the one-goby-per-tank rule, I've not come across that often - in fact, I've had multiple gobies in my tanks, like the four bumblebee gobies in my freshwater setup or the zebra and blue cheek gobies in my reef tank.

Some blenny species can be quite territorial and will fight each other, but many can coexist peacefully. Generally, gobies get along well with each other, regardless of the type. However, sleeper gobies are an exception - it's best to keep only one pair per tank unless the tank is quite large. That being said, you can keep other goby species with sleeper gobies without issues. Fire gobies are pretty laid-back and can thrive in groups as long as they're not harassed by other fish.
