information on watanabei angelfish
hey, so i'm thinking of getting a watanabei angel fish for my 50 gallon tank, but i'm not sure if it's a good idea with coflakes and inverts. can anyone tell me if they'd work out? also, how big do they get and what else should i know about them?
Re: information on watanabei angelfish
Watanabe's Angelfish can grow up to 5.9 in in length. For a suitable environment, a minimum aquarium size of 100 gal is recommended. They're not picky eaters, accepting a variety of foods including meaty options, finely-chopped crustacean flesh, and mysid shrimp. You can also offer them frozen preparations for herbivores. And the best part, they're REEF SAFE. Hope this info helps, KJ
Re: information on watanabei angelfish
I'd definitely say they are reef-safe, but if you do decide to put one in a 50-gallon tank, just keep a close eye out for any signs of stress.

I can keep one in a 50 gallon, but I should be careful, right, and keep an eye out for stress?
Re: information on watanabei angelfish
Considering my tank's inhabitants, I'm wondering if I'd be overstocking with the addition of the Watanabe's Angelfish. Here's my current list: 2 ocellaris clowns, 2 original firtideflow, a wheeler's watchman goby, a tiger pistol shrimp, a fire shrimp, a skunk cleaner shrimp, 3-4 bangaii cardinals, and the female Watanabe's Angelfish. I'm also thinking about adding a mandarin, but that depends on whether it's eating well, and maybe a carpenter's wrasse.
Re: information on watanabei angelfish
ok so would this be overstovked,
2 occelaris clowns = 1.5"
2 original firtideflow 2"
1 wheelers watchman goby 3"
1 tiger pistol shrimp 1"
1 fire shrimp 1"
1 skunk cleaner shrimp 1"
3-4 bangaii cardinals 2"
female watanabei angelfish 6"
maybe a mandarin (dpends if eating) (green mandarin is 2-3") (spotted is 1-2")
maybe a carpenters wrasse 3.5"
Honestly, I think you'd be just fine in a 50 gal. I'd say you're good to go.

Re: information on watanabei angelfish
Thanks, so I could add the carpenter's wrasse and the mandarin if I find one that's eating, and it still shouldn't be overstocked, right?
Re: information on watanabei angelfish
I think we're mixing up a common myth here - it's not exactly 1 inch per gallon, that's just a rough guideline.

Re: information on watanabei angelfish
the 1 inch per gallon rule is more for freshwater, it's not really applicable to saltwater tanks.
