A rather ordinary day
A rather ordinary day
Picked up two female bettas from the local pet shop today, not exactly the most colourful ones but there's something about them I like. Poured the water and fish out of the bag into a 4-inch square glass tank, gave them some live daphnia to eat - they started feeding right away, no surprise there. Gave them 20-30 minutes before releasing them into the 60L tank, plan is to feed them plenty of Live foods to get them in top condition for breeding. If everything goes smoothly, next step is finding a suitable male betta or two.

They seem alright to me, I reckon you should ease off on the food a bit next time since they're still settling in.

One of the reasons I fed live daphnia, Fluxx, is they can just be left in the tank with the fish, won't die off and pollute the water. Hopefully, in a couple weeks, I'll be culturing mosquito larvae - it's probably the best live food for bettas.

Good luck with that mosquito larvae culture, hope it goes wellShark wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 12:52 am Picked up two female bettas from the local pet shop today, not exactly the most colourful ones but there's something about them I like. I collect mosquito rafts from my water butts, then I put one raft in each 4-point container of water. Each raft usually produces between 200-300 mosquito larvae, they hatch within 24 hours and feed on the green water, growing really fast. This is just one method I use for feeding them, I've had good success with it so far.

Cool setup you've got going on.

They look really lovely to me, nice little bettas you've got there, good luck with them.
Re: A rather ordinary day
I'm thinking of breeding the green female to a blue male, should be interesting to see if any green males pop up from the spawn.

Those that don't get eaten by the fish, well, I end up with loads of mosquitoes flying about in my fish room. I catch as many as I can and feed them back to the fish.

I had a bunch on my legs when I was sat in the back yard, was quite a few to be honest, I sat there for a bit and I was getting eaten alive, after that I went back to my fish room and caught a few more to feed the fish.
