experience with malawi salts?

Post by dougmac »

hi everyone, i was browsing on ebay and stumbled upon seachem lake malawi salts. they claim these salts can replicate the water conditions found in the natural environment of lake malawi. is it worth giving them a try or am i just wasting my time, considering i don't have any wild-caught malawis, but i do have a few F1's? any personal reviews or experiences would be really helpful

I'm not familiar with Seachem Lake Malawi salts, but I can offer some general thoughts. If your pH is already in the 7.6-8.0 range, I'm not sure you'd need them. My Malawi have been thriving in my tank conditions, breeding and all, so I wouldn't say the salts are necessary. Adding them might not be the best idea, especially if you have a Pleco in the tank.

I've never actually tried them myself, but I've been curious about Seachem Lake Malawi salts too. From what I know, the Rift lakes do have a natural salt content. I've heard from other keepers that using these salts along with micro minerals can really bring out the colors in the fish.

I've also been browsing eBay, had the same question.
