Judging what's "average" for growth is tough, given all the variables at play. What kind of new heads/growth are most people seeing?
I've got an older pic from May:
It's not exactly thriving, and to be honest, it still looks pretty similar now. I'll have to grab another pic when I get home from work. I'm not making excuses, but summer was crazy busy. Now that the snow's here and I've taken a closer look at the tank, I'm thinking it should've grown way more since then.
Frogspawn coral growth rates
Re: Frogspawn coral growth rates
I've got a cluster of four heads that's been in my tank for almost three months now, and to be honest, I'm still waiting for any new growth. I've also got a candy cane in there, and I'm expecting both of them to start taking in some calcium soon. Fingers crossed, it's been a bit of a wait so far.
Re: Frogspawn coral growth rates
I've been in this holding pattern for what feels like an eternity - well over a year, more like a few years now. Ever since I made the jump from my small 29 hex to the 75, I've struggled to get my LPS to truly thrive. SPS and Zoas, no issue whatsoever, but LPS just won't budge. They'll survive, but that's about it.
A few months back, I noticed my SPS was looking a bit washed out, Zoas were smaller than usual, and of course, my frogspawn was retracted. That's when it hit me - the water was too clean. I upped the feeding, added some fish to the mix, and took the GFO offline. Now, the colors are slowly coming back, Zoas are happy and spreading...but that frogspawn, it's still sitting there, stubborn as ever.

Re: Frogspawn coral growth rates
I've got a few LPS that fit the bill - one Frogspawn, two hammers, and a torch.
My Frogspawn was added as a one-head frag back in November last year, and it's since grown to four heads. Not bad, considering.
The hammers were added in March, and both have gone from one head to four and five heads, respectively. They're doing alright, I'd say.
The torch is a bit of a different story - I got it two months ago with two heads already on it, and while it's gotten a bit bigger, it hasn't split any new heads yet. But I haven't been target feeding as much lately, thanks to that pesky Green Hair Algae.
I've found that if you target feed them with something good once a week, they'll start growing - but be warned, your algae might start growing too. That's been my experience, anyway.
All of these seem to like a moderate to stronger flow and light, so that might give you an idea of what to expect. Here's a pic of my rock with the two hammers and the Frogspawn.

Here's the tank today, not much change as you can see. I'll start target feeding to see if that's the trick. I've been feeding a mix, mysis, Formula 1 and 2, pellets, and Rod's a few times a week, but maybe I need to focus on the LPS specifically.
