keeping cichlids

Post by zeno4d »

Hi,

My Female is holding - How long does this process go on for & what happens next?!

I'm a bit stuck as I don't have another tank to move her or the fry to, so I'm worried about their chances. What's the survival rate for them in this situation?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what type of fish you've got but generally it's 17 to 21 days, also varies with water temp.

My Rustys, they've been holding for around 3 weeks, give or take.

My mbuna seem to hold anywhere from 21 to 28 days, so it's a pretty decent range. If you want the fry to have the best shot at survival without removing them, try creating a bunch of rock piles using small rocks for hiding spots. What type of cichlid is it, and what other fish are in the tank, by the way? Also, what's the tank size?
