I'm getting worried about my betta Cambria - she's been with me for over 3 years, and I've grown pretty attached. I got her when she had fin and tail rot, but I nursed her back to health. Lately, I've noticed these weird white specs on her body that look like her fins are flaking off. At first, I thought it was Ich or columnaris, so I've been using melafix and fungus cure. But overnight, this growth just appeared out of nowhere.
She's still swimming and eating normally, and my other girls in the sorority tank aren't bothering her. I keep a close eye on her since she's older. I'm concerned she might be in pain, and I don't want that for her. We've had her since she was our first betta, so she's kinda the favorite. If it comes down to it, I'll put her down, but if there's a chance I can get her healthy again, I'd love to try.
By the way, she did lose an eye to popeye a couple years ago, but she seemed fine until this started happening.
Is cami doing well?
Re: Is cami doing well?
Honestly, I think Cambria's in a pretty rough state. What are your water parameters looking like?
Re: Is cami doing well?
She's actually doing pretty well, swimming around and playing with the girls. It's just this growth on her side that's got me worried. I keep a close eye on the water, and it's all good, so I'm not sure what's causing this.
Re: Is cami doing well?
The growth literally sprouted overnight, I swear. Monday, she was fine, no sign of it. But then yesterday it just showed up, and this morning it looked even worse.
Re: Is cami doing well?
It seems like she's experiencing some discomfort, as evidenced by her tightly clamped fins. I'm wondering if there's been any recent additions to the tank that could be causing this.
Re: Is cami doing well?
I've had Cambria for years and when I first got her, her fins were in terrible shape - she even lost her top fin for a bit. They've since regrown, but I did notice they didn't get as long as I thought they would. I just figured it was due to scarring from the fin rot.

I've had her for over 3 years, rescued her with bad fin and tail rot. Lately, she's had these white specs on her body that looked like her fins were flaking off, so I thought it was Ich or columnaris. I've been using melafix and fungus cure, but then this growth just showed up. I keep a close eye on her since she's old and part of a sorority tank. The other girls aren't bothering her, and she's swimming and eating fine.flamewave wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:07 am I'm getting worried about my betta Cambria - she's been with me for over 3 years, and I've grown pretty attached. I'm worried she's in pain, and I don't want that for her. She's our first betta, so she's special to us. If it's hopeless, I'll put her down, but if there's a chance to nurse her back to health, I'd love to try. She did lose an eye to popeye a couple of years ago, but she seemed healthy until now.
