Troubleshooting bubble coral issues

Post by kangaview »

I've had this bubble coral for 6 days now and it's still not fully opening, just tiny bubbles. I tested my water and my calcium is way too high - could that be the issue? All my other corals are open and happy.

Water params are:
Salinity 1.025
Ph 8.0-8.5
Ammonia .6
Nitrite .3
Calcium 600 (just did a water change too)

I'm new to reefing, only been doing it for a month, so I'd love some advice.

I've had one for years, got it from a fellow reefer, and it's still going strong. But I did buy another one and it didn't make it a week, so I think some bubble corals are definitely hardier than others. Not an expert here, but I'm not convinced the high calcium is the problem - could be wrong though.

I really hope it's not a dud, 70 bucks is a lot to shell out for a coral that won't even open up. Medium flow and not too much light, that's what I've read is best for these guys, so I'm stumped.

I put mine in a similar spot as my other corals that are doing well, same medium flow and not too much light, hope that's enough.

600, that's crazy high. Either your test kit is off or you might've tested it wrong.
What's your Alk and Mag at, by the way?
Bubbles are pretty finicky about water parameters, most corals are like that too.

I'm gonna retest the calcium, maybe I messed up the test. Need to get a test kit for ALK and MAG, this one didn't come with that.
