A cichlid with a cut

My mom's got this cichlid tank and the biggest one's got a cut right between its eyes. It's white and seems to be getting bigger, which is pretty concerning. What's the best course of action here?

A picture would be helpful to get a better look at the injury. For cuts, I've had good results with melafix - it's pretty effective against most bacterial infections, just not white spot.
