Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?
So my kribs spawn every 18 days or so. Around the 18th day, my female was really fired up - I mean, she was totally into it. For a couple days before, she'd been cleaning the fake coflake like crazy, wouldn't leave it alone. Then she lost all her belly color, wouldn't budge from the coflake... this has been going on for about 8 days now. Now she's cruising around the tank, but the male's always by or in the coflake. She's not even interested in food most of the time... weird. Then she'd leave the coflake, he'd stay out, and her belly color would start coming back. But yesterday, she lost all her color again, looked thinner... can't see in there too well, though. What's going on, guys?
Re: Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?
He's being super possessive about the coflake now, won't even let her in. He's also gotten really picky about food, won't come out unless it's right by one of the openings. Then he'll grab a piece and go back in, only to come back out about 30 seconds later, waiting for another bite.

Give it another day or so, I think you're getting close to finding out if there's fry. Eight days is a pretty good indicator they're almost ready to come out, if there are any.
My male didn't really get into the parenting thing until the eggs hatched, not like yours seems to be.

Re: Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?
I've been keeping an eye out for the fry, it's been about 6-7 days now. I've been turning the lights off at night, waiting to see if they'll emerge.
Re: Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?
Do you usually keep the lights on at night anyway, or is this something you've been doing just for the kribs?
Re: Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?
Normally I don't turn the lights off, but I've been doing it at night since they've been spawning. When I can see the eggs, I'll keep the light on and cover the tank with black fabric. But since I can't see inside the coflake, I'm not sure what's going on. They're both swimming outside now, which is a good sign. I'm thinking of adding a few more small plants or decorations to the tank, so she has more places to hide and feel secure, and maybe reduce the stress of the big coflake.
Re: Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?
Lights off, people. Fish need sleep too. I'm not sure why you're stressing them out with endless days - and wrapping the tank in black fabric? That's just a fire waiting to happen. The more you mess with the tank, the more likely you'll spook the kribs into eating their eggs. If the female's been holed up for days and isn't swimming around, and they're not chasing each other, it's probably because there were eggs and they got eaten.
I had a similar thing happen with my kribs - they spawned four days ago, and I used a tank magnet to clean off the algae so I could see into the cave. Big mistake. As soon as I cleaned the glass, the female started chomping down on the eggs.
Just leave them alone and turn off the lights at night, for their sake.
