started off with my 55gal as a community setup, but i got bored with that and decided to try something new, so i switched to SA cichlids. had a good stock going, but they just didnt work out for me, and the tap water here is a real pain - high ph and super hard, so i was spending way too much time and cash buffering it. ended up selling all the stock and going back to a livebearer community... and honestly, it was a bit meh.
now i've made the switch to african cichlids, mainly because i dont have to mess around with buffering the water, and the changeover is almost done - just a few fish to rehome and a few more on the way.
this is what the tank looked like a week ago when it was all livebearers...
and this is how it looks now - the fish seem way happier, and i've gone for a tree root and rock setup to give it a lake bed vibe, rather than the usual ocean rock look with no plants.
it's pretty busy and full, but there's loads of hiding spots - hundreds of caves, and yeah, there's still 3 mollies in there, but no altums yet... they're moving on in the next few days.

Re: Moving to malawi
Love the transformation of your tank, it's come a long way. I've always been fascinated by Malawis, but for now I think I'll stick with my betta obsession, maybe one day I'll take the plunge.
