Am i pregnant?

Post by bailite »

I'm having trouble figuring out if my glofish tetra is pregnant, egg bound, or just fat - can someone help me out? I also have no idea what the gender is, btw. I've got 2 other tetras, blue and purple, in the same tank.

To determine if your glofish tetra is indeed pregnant, egg bound, or just fat, we need to consider a few factors. First off, is your fish eating normally? Also, what's the condition of its poop like? Has it been producing normal-colored feces or is there something off about it?

Another thing to consider is the timeframe in which your tetra got fat. If it's been eating normally, producing regular poop, and the weight gain occurred over a month or more, it's likely that your fish is either carrying eggs or has excess weight.

However, if your fish has stopped eating, is producing stringy white poop, and got fat rapidly, that's a different story. In that case, it's probably an internal bacterial infection, which unfortunately means the fish won't survive for more than 24-48 hours.

So its poop looks normal and I only noticed this morning. I feed them a small amount of flakes in the morning and a brine shrimp cube once a week. I've got a pretty mixed tank - 3 tetras, 2 khuli loaches, 2 rubberlip plecos, and 2 panda corys. The brine shrimp usually get eaten by the end of the day. I've only had the tank for about a month now, it's a 20 gallon. The other two tetras aren't aggressive or anything, but they do chase the yellow one around, especially the blue one.

In the wild, tetras usually live in huge groups with thousands of other fish. That's why they're chasing each other around in your tank. I'd recommend getting more, at least 10 if you can, but since your tank is pretty new, maybe wait a bit.

Also, you gotta be careful with feeding, don't let that food sit there for too long, it's bad news for the fish. Try to get rid of any uneaten food after a few minutes, like 2-5.

Not just the tetras, but the kuhli loaches and cories too - they're all shoaling fish that really need to be in bigger groups to thrive.
