Optimal placement for favia corals

I'm curious, where do you all usually place your favias? Mine was on the sand for a few months, and while he was alive, he just wasn't doing great. Now I've got him on a rock, about halfway up, and his polyps are out way more often. Wondering if I should glue him in place or just let him grow naturally.

I've always kept mine on the sand too, seems to be doing great, plenty of space away from other corals.

I've got a pretty diverse favia collection in my 125 - about 6 or 7 different types. I've placed a couple on rock formations that sit on the sand, and the rest are all situated mid-level within the rockwork. So far, all of them are thriving, coexisting nicely with various soft corals, other LPS, and a few SPS.

In their natural habitat, favias tend to spread out over rock formations. Once you've confirmed the spot you've chosen meets their needs - adequate lighting, suitable water flow, sufficient distance from neighboring corals, and so on - I'd recommend securing them to the rock.

I've had them thrive on both sand and rock in my tank, and I've gotta say, they're a pretty low-maintenance coral in my experience.
