When Amazon Swords mature, they produce a flower spike that can reach up to 6 feet in length, although it's usually shorter, around 2-3 feet. The spike grows above the water's surface and produces white flowers spaced about 4 inches apart. In contrast, when the plant is fully submerged, it produces baby plants along the flower stalk. These baby swordplants should be left on the stem until they develop a decent root system. To help them grow, you can weigh them down onto the gravel or place them in pots with gravel. After a few months, you can cut the main flower stalk on either side of the plants, and voila, you have new plants.
