Just got my hands on another external filter, so I'm all set to set up my 29g again. The wife has given it the thumbs up, and I've found a nice quiet spot in the corner of our dining room. Initially, I thought of breeding my julidochromis transcriptus – they seem to have paired up in the big tank – but then I started thinking, they're tank-bred Czech fish, and although they're really pretty and healthy, they're not wild-caught or anything special. I'd worry that I'd struggle to find homes for the fry.
My big tank's got 7 brevis (3 adults, 4 juvies), 4 transcriptus, 1 comp, and 3 lucipinnis. I'm thinking of moving the brevis to the 29g and replacing them with something different in the big tank – maybe add more rocks where the old shell bed used to be and get some paracyps. Or, I could get a pair of really nice wild-caught or F1 shellies or julies – not sure what type, but they'd need to be comfortable in a 29g. I've got loads of spare rocks and shells in the garage, so it could be either shellies or rock dwellers.
What would you guys do in my shoes?
planning my tang tank setup
Re: planning my tang tank setup
I've been thinking of some other options for the 29g tank. How about trying to breed some of those catfish, like Lophiobagrus or Phyllonemus? They're pretty interesting and not as common as some other species. Alternatively, I've always been fascinated by the Tanganyikan Mud Cichlids, they're really hard to find but would be amazing to work with.

Thanks for the suggestions, really like the sound of the Lophiobagrus catfish, will definitely look into those further, might be just the thing for my 29g setup.
