How old do betta fish live?

Post by coralia »

Hi, I've had Galaxy, my fin_tank, for about a month and a half now. I'm trying to figure out how old he is, and I was hoping for some advice. I've attached a few photos, but they're not great - I'm not exactly a photographer. Galaxy's a Koi, possibly halfmoon?

Would love to get a better look at Galaxy - could you post a few more photos, especially some that show the size of his body?

Based on what I've read, betta age at purchase is usually around 7-12 months. To me, Galaxy looks pretty young, maybe around 6 months old. I'm going off the size of the heater in the background and his fins. Keep in mind I'm no expert on bettas, just my two cents.

I'm really sorry for the delay in my response - life got pretty hectic. I've managed to upload another picture, though. I had some issues with the upload, so I could only get one to work.

To me, Galaxy seems pretty youthful, I'd estimate 4-6 months old, judging by his fin development and body size.

I had a feeling he'd be on the younger side, and yeah, he does seem a bit smaller compared to other bettas I've seen. Thanks so much for all your input and help, it's really appreciated!
