adding chromis
adding chromis
Hi everyone, just wanted to follow up on my nitrate issue - I think I've got it under control now after a couple of water changes. I'm gonna let things settle for a bit before adding any new fish. I was at the local fish store looking at chromis and had a couple of questions. I was told they do better in groups of 2 or 3, rather than solo - is there any truth to this? Also, I'm thinking of adding either 1 or 2 chromis to my 20 gallon tank, which already has 2 clowns - would that be too much? I'm leaning towards just one, to be safe.
Re: adding chromis
Hello all, glad to hear you've got your nitrate problem under control. That's a good plan, letting things stabilize before adding more fish.
I've got a question about chromis, the lady at the lfs said they do better in groups of 2 or 3, but I'm not sure if that's entirely true. From what I know, chromis actually thrive in groups of 5 or more, not just 2 or 3.
As for stocking, I think 2 clowns and 3 chromis would be a bit too much for a 20 gallon tank. Honestly, I'd say you're better off with just 1 or 2 chromis at most. Chromis can be quite aggressive, especially in small groups. They tend to pick on the weakest one, which can lead to some serious stress and even death. Plus, they grow pretty big, so 3 would be too many for your tank.
If you ask me, you've got some better options for your tank. Why not try a pair of clowns and a small goby or shrimp combo? That way, you can keep your bioload in check and still have some interesting fish to watch. Just make sure you're on top of your water changes and testing, and you might be able to squeeze in one more small fish down the line.
