After losing my chromis, I'm down to four fish - kole tang, maroon clowns, and falco hawk. Just treated for red bugs, so invert-wise, I've got two turbo snails, two Marguerita snails, and possibly some Nass snails. Need something fairly aggressive, won't eat co flakes. Size and hawk safety are my main concerns. Ideas so far:
Fu Manchu or dwarf lion - might eat the hawk though
Tobacco basslet
Anthia
Six/fourline wrasse - not sure if it's aggressive enough
Looking for just one, or something else you can suggest.
selecting the right fish
Re: selecting the right fish
I think dwarf lions generally leave hawks alone, unless it's a juvenile.
I've always been fond of anthias, but the issue is they need feeding multiple times a day, which can put a strain on water quality. As for the basslet you mentioned, I'm not familiar with the specific type, but most are pretty okay, although some can get a bit aggressive. The six-line wrasse is a mixed bag - some have been known to nibble on corals, while others seem to coexist just fine. You might also want to consider orchid dottybacks, flasher wrasses, or fairy wrasses.

Re: selecting the right fish
Just wanted to update, I picked up a coflake beauty two days ago and everything seems fine so far. He's still hiding a lot, but whenever food comes near, I see him grab it. Had a pretty intense moment though - he actually took a swipe at my tang, but it's okay, the tang will be alright.

Hey, I noticed you had a group of chromis that didn't make it - do you think it's best to have 4-5 for schooling or is that just a myth? What happened with yours, I'm trying to figure out what to watch out for - thanksstorm9 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 10:49 pm After losing my chromis, I'm down to four fish - kole tang, maroon clowns, and falco hawk.
