Lost my jawfish, can anyone help?

Post by daxil »

Hey guys,

Just got a pearly jawfish yesterday, but now I'm having trouble finding the little bloke. Did the usual float bag, mixed in some salt, then released him into the tank. Saw him swimming up and down, then he ended up resting in one of the corners - that's the last I saw of him. Next 3/4 hours I was preoccupied with another new tankmate (that's a whole other story, separate post).

Spent all afternoon searching, got some decent rockwork in the tank too, and I did shift some rocks about while sorting the other issue, but can't recall seeing him. Still nothing this morning. It's only been a day, but should I be getting worried or is this normal for a new jawfish?

Jawfish are notorious for burrowing, I'd say give him some time, they love to dig and hide.

Is your tank covered, Jawfish are notorious for jumping out.

Yeah, I've checked the floor around the tank too, nothing's turned up. Still a bit concerned, does anyone know how long jawfish usually stay hidden for after introduction? And is this kind of behaviour normal for a newly added jawfish, just trying to get a better idea of what's going on here.

It's been nearly a week and I'm still none the wiser. The little blighter's vanished into thin air. If I finally lay eyes on it now, I'll be bloody fuming.
