Female Bettas can get pretty aggressive, and sometimes they fight. I've even seen short fin males that look like females attack and kill long fin males. You might want to separate the two for a bit and see what happens. Take a closer look at the female's belly, see if it's got a white ovipositor - that's the egg laying tube. Females have this white ovipositor, while males are dark.

If your male's getting constipated from food, I'd say you're feeding too much dry food. Try giving him some small insects like aphids, flies, or mosquitoes. Mosquito larvae are great too. You can also feed him frozen brineshrimp, bloodworms, or daphnia. Just make sure to defrost them first.

I've also used prawns and shrimp - just remove the head, shell, and gut, and cut the tail into small bits. Give him one or two bits at a time, and remove any uneaten food after 5 minutes. Big regular water changes are key to keeping the water clean.

I used to feed my fish like this, 4 times a day, and they never had any issues.

Providing your betta with a varied diet is essential - I recommend feeding them 3-4 times a day, using a mix of frozen and live foods, just make sure to defrost the frozen ones first. Maintaining the ideal water temperature is also crucial, so aim for 26-28C or 79-82F. Adding some floating plants to the surface can help create a suitable environment; I've found Water Sprite to be particularly effective. It's also important to minimize water movement and surface turbulence, as this can disrupt the nest. Daily water changes can help simulate the effects of rainfall, which can be beneficial. Ultimately, it's essential to be patient and give your fish time - after all, they have their own preferences when it comes to finding a partner, and sometimes it just doesn't work out.
