Elegance coral is dying off

Post by Nyxora »

I had an elegance like his for months, it was thriving. Now it's been looking like this for two weeks, and I'm stumped.

My tank's otherwise doing great, the frog spawn I've had for three years are still going strong.

As for the elegance, I've tried dipping it, moved it to lower light, and even changed its feeding schedule. It's like trying to figure out what's bothering your partner, but they won't tell you.

I'm with you on the frustration factor, sounds like you're dealing with a bit of a mystery here. Any sudden changes to tank parameters would be my first guess - can you post those? I've always thought of my corals as real-time indicators of my tank chemistry, they never lie. If everything else in the tank is happy, you can probably rule out water chem issues, but still worth checking, right?

Funny you mention that, mine did the same thing the other night, but in my case, the frogspawn on the opposite side of the rock was also looking a bit off. My elegance is still pretty new to the tank, so it's probably still settling in. It's been eating fine and seems happy otherwise, just suddenly started acting a bit miffed.

I'd say it's probably some kind of infection, possibly a bacterial or fungal issue, given the sudden change in behavior and appearance of the elegance.

Yesterday, a beam of sunlight hit my elegance head-on, and I noticed something pretty interesting - it started to swell and open up.

Maybe bump up the lighting a bit, see if that perks it up. More flow could also be beneficial, worth a shot.

Should I throw in the towel at this point?

Hey, how's your tank doing. Came here to see what's up with my elegance, been having issues for 2 days now after 6 months in the tank.

No idea why you're asking, I came here for the elegance issue, not my cat.
