Which plants are best for beginners?

I'm looking to add more plants to my 10-gallon tank before introducing shrimp. I want to give them plenty of hiding spots, and also help my tetras feel more secure - they're pretty shy and only come up to the surface to eat. I think the bright light might be intimidating them, so I'm thinking of getting some red root floaters or frogbit to provide some shade.

I'd love to hear some suggestions on other plants that would work well in my tank. I've already got a few plants, including two Zorchzon swords, some red myrio, golden creeping janesany, a nana petite Anubias, a Java fern, and two cryptocoryn - not sure what kind they are, though. I'm also planning to add some almond leaves, which I'm pretty sure will be a hit with the shrimp.

For low-light plants, you might want to consider Amazon frogbit or water wisteria, they're both pretty easy to care for and provide great coverage. If you're looking for something to add some height, you could try a few stems of water sprite or even some anacharis. As for placement, I'd suggest putting the taller plants towards the back and sides of the tank, and using the shorter ones like the Java fern and Anubias towards the front. I really like the look of water sprite, thanks for the suggestion. Where would you recommend placing it in the tank, would it work well around the swords or near the back with the Java fern?

Floating plants are a must here. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but it's crucial for your setup. The current fish behavior, like the tetras being shy, is likely due to lack of cover.
