Frogspawn killing yellow sponge

Something's been bugging me with my frogspawn lately - it just won't fully inflate. I've had a good look and I think I've figured out the problem. There's some tissue at the base of the skeleton heads that's started to recede. I've got a pretty good idea what's causing it. This yellow sponge that started growing on the rock where the frogspawn is has basically taken over. It's climbed right up the frogspawn and I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I've read that dousing the sponge in peroxide might kill it, but I'd love to hear some other thoughts on this.

Sponges aren't too fond of being exposed to air, so I'd suggest trying to hold the coral upside down, keeping the polyps submerged and the sponge out of the water - that should do the trick. Give it about 30 seconds of air time and see how it goes.

I'm gonna toss this out. It doesn't look like a sponge to me. More like a bacterial infection. Not brown jelly, but some kind of bacterial colony feeding off something. Have you tried dipping the coral in a treatment of some sort?

I've dealt with a similar issue on a torch colony. Same yellow color, but it didn't bother the coral. I think axonify's method could work - I couldn't stand the looks of it myself.

I had a similar experience with a coral that came infested with black and white sponges. I simply scraped them off using a sharp knife, and when smaller ones grew back, I repeated the process. If you're dealing with a sponge, it should have a hard texture, but can be easily scraped off. If you decide to try this, make sure to thoroughly rinse the coral in tank water before putting it back in your tank.
