Australian elegance coral

Post by bluevolt9 »

Just picked up an Australian elegance, it's huge, about football-sized when fully opened. What food do you guys recommend? LFS said pe mysis, but I'd love to hear other options. Also, what's the max current it can handle?

What's the size of your Australian elegance in inches? I'd say once a week feeding should be more than enough.

It's roughly 12 inches in diameter when fully open.

I've had a few of these Australian elegance over the years, never fed them and they've done just fine. My current one's been around for years, still going strong. It catches whatever floats by when I'm feeding my fish, that's good enough for me.

You'll also want to consider adding some larger food items to the mix, such as silverside or krill - I've found my elegance can handle surprisingly substantial chunks of food.

I'd recommend giving it some bigger food too, like silverside or krill - elegance corals can handle surprisingly large chunks of food.

My elegance isn't picky, it'll eat just about anything. Mine's on a mix of mini pellets and brine shrimp, works out fine for me.

As long as the coral can hold onto the food like pellets or flakes long enough to get it to its mouth, it should be fine. I've just seen some LPS get nipped at when they're trying to transfer food. Cutting a coke bottle in half and burying it upside down in the sand can be a huge help.
