choosing a male or female plakat betta

I'm still trying to figure out lil dude's gender, can't seem to get a read on it for some reason

I'm gonna take a guess - I think lil dude is a female, but honestly I'm no expert at all

You can tell it's a female, there's a white dot under the belly.

I'm inclined to agree, female seems likely, though I'm not entirely confident in my assessment.

If the fish flares its Sprig in response to its own reflection, examine the extent of the Sprig. Females tend to have them just at the sides, whereas males display them at the sides and under the chin, giving the appearance of a beard.

Definitely a female, I've been breeding these for ages. The males always have a fuller, more muscular build and a better-defined shape. Their tail's a dead giveaway too, it's that distinctive D shape. This one's body shape screams female to me, you can see it in the way the stomach's curved.
