A better course of action

Post by Torvik9 »

Hey guys, I'm revisiting a topic I posted about a few days ago - whether or not fish can choke on food. I'm pretty convinced my false perc clown did, and I'm looking for some advice. This was the second mate for my existing clown, and it didn't exactly work out. The first mate, she actually took a liking to him and they paired well. The second one, not so much - it took a month or so for her to leave him alone. Now I'm considering a third attempt. Should I go with another small clown or try a different fish altogether? Right now, the tank's pretty empty, just the one clown and some inverts. I've always wanted a fire goby, but I'm worried it might be too shy for my clown. Any suggestions?

You could consider having a chat with your local fish store, see if they'd be willing to let you take a clownfish home, with the understanding that if it doesn't get along with the one you've got, you could bring it back and swap it out for something else.

Another idea, why not ask if you can swap the clown you've got for two juveniles already settled in the same tank - you'd likely need to pay a bit extra, but it could be worth it.

I've always been a fan of having a pair of clowns, something about a single one just doesn't feel right to me.

I thought about that, Seffie, but I've had this one for nearly a year now, and I know she's really healthy, eats well, and has tons of personality. I mean, I know a lot of clowns are the same, but there's just something about this one. She's got "dog" like qualities, even if it's just in her impulses, and I've grown quite fond of her. I do know what you mean about pairs, though - it does feel like something's missing when it's just the one. To be honest, she just looks plain bored by herself...

No offense, but I'm curious - could I see a pic of your entire tank setup?

No worries at all, I'm actually surprised no one's asked for a tank pic yet. I've never posted one here, been meaning to, just haven't gotten around to it. Rockwork's a bit all over the place atm, just living in a temp place and haven't had the chance to really organize it. I can try and get a pic up though.

Cheers, really looking forward to seeing that tank of yours. I've always been into marine tanks, thinking of setting one up myself one day. The water changes put me off initially, having to get water from the LFS and all, but then I found out it's actually pretty cheap. Was expecting to pay a lot more, like at least £30 for a 50% change.

Anyway, not the point, just can't wait to see the pic.

Thanks, can't wait to see it. I love marine tanks, one day I'll try setting one up. I got put off with the w/c, how you need water from a LFS, but then I saw how cheap it was. I was expecting £30 minimum for like a 50% w/c. But anyway, that's another story, can't wait to see the pic.

Alright, so you wanna post a pic of your tank, huh. What I do is, I go to tinypic.com, upload the pic, then I copy the code that says "For Forums" - it's pretty straightforward. Then I just come back here, post a message, and paste the code in, like this:

My Tank:

Code: Select all

My tank's not the most impressive, I'll be honest. It's a 29 gallon hex, pretty basic setup. I've got plans to upgrade to a biocube in October, fingers crossed. The pics aren't the best, sorry about that - old camera, don't judge.
